The Axis 4-Person Screen Tent Shelter is a waterproof, free-standing screen shelter. It is part of the Modular Tent System or MTS, meaning it can be adjoined with up to 4 Zulu 3 (a 3-person tent) tents creating a mega tent with plenty of standing space that can serve as storage or dining area and sleeping space!

The Axis 4 is in the 4-6 people range along with the Vega, Eros, Gobi, Indiana, Taurus, Mars, and Atlas. It is on the lower end of the scale and can accommodate only a maximum of 4 people.

Despite its 4-person rating, the Axis 4 is more suitable for solo camping but can also comfortably fit in 3 people. Similar to the Atlas Pop-Up Screen Tent, it is a main hub style tent with no rooms unless attached with another MTS tent.

It has a Standard construction meaning quality assembly pieces were used, however, its poles are not as lightweight as the ones used in Premium construction tents. Nevertheless, the Axis 4 is one of the lighter tents in the 4-6 people range with a weight of 14 kgs. For something even lighter, check out the Atlas Pop-Up Screen Tent – the lightest in the range at only 9.6 kgs. On the other hand, if weight is not an issue, tents like the Vega, Eros, Gobi,Indiana, Taurus, and Mars are heavier but can accommodate more people.

If you need a tall tent because you have an exceptionally tall member in your group, this is it: the Axis 4 provides the most headroom in the 4-6 person range. It has an inner standing height of 260 cm.

MTS (Modular Tent System)

The Axis 4 serves as the heart of the MTS as all sides of this free standing screen shelter can be attached with our Zulu 3.

Made with dense yet lightweight 210T polyester taffeta and coated 3000mm polyurethane, this shelter will allow you to enjoy your meal or lounge around dry in the rain. The seams are also fully-taped and have strong 6-7 stitches per inch stitch.

It also boasts of a detachable, Polyethylene, tub-style groundsheet that is secured with Velcro on all sides, keeping the elements, including those pesky bugs out!

Get your money's worth with the Axis 4's versatility. The free standing space can be used a dining area in the day then converted into a sleeping quarter at night.

The mesh panels and vents built into the fabric doors let the breeze in and out of the tent, providing its occupants a cool and comfortable place to enjoy a meal or to simply hang out!

With fewer guy ropes and stakes, setting up the Axis 4 is much simpler. It reduces the risk of losing important pieces that might prevent you from successfully pitching your tent. Moreover, there's less tripping hazard, a wonderful thing to consider if you are travelling with children! It also comes with an easy-to-read and illustrated manual. Talk about easy!

Fret not about the fewer assembly pieces affecting the tent's stability. The guy ropes and large PP webbing straps are positioned with precision to ensure maximum resistance and tension. This will maintain your tent's shape allowing rain to slide down and prevent moisture build up in the fabric.

Lastly, the massive ABS stakes can hold down your tent despite it's height in sudden gusts of strong wind. (Note: The Axis 4 is designed for use in the summer time and is not created to withstand gale force winds and hurricanes.

The sectional steel poles and high-tension fiberglass, shock-corded poles are durable and weatherproof. Along with the UV coated rain fly that increases the tent's defense against the elements and reinforced seams to endure wear and tear.

We are also confident to provide this tent with a 12-month warranty. If you are unhappy with it in any way or if you find any defects upon delivery, we will happily replace it.

The Axis 4 eliminates another common problem among campers: spotting the tent in the dark. It has a glowing CEC logo that's hard to miss!

Your Questions Answered

From John:

I am interested in purchasing one of your modular tents. Either the Axis or Atlas and 3 of their corresponding add-on side tents...I would like to know if the smaller side room tents actually attach to the main tent body of the Axis or Atlas or are they simply just built right next to the center tent? If they attach, is it by zipper, hook-loop, etc? Your response is greatly appreciated. Regards.

Hi John, thanks for your email. The sleeping pods [MigaorZulu] for the both models in our Modular Tent range e.g. the Axis & Zulu physically attach to the central tent via zippers with a rain flap to cover that connection to help reduce water ingress.

From Brandy:

I have several questions about the Axis screen house:

  1. I have concerns about fiberglass poles. Can you please tell me more about your fiberglass poles? Have there been any issues with them with other customers? On exactly what support part of the tent are they located?
  2. The height of the tent. Have you had any reports from other customers about wind related issues with a tent of this height?
  3. Is the zippered screen/flap all one unit?
  4. Is the velcro removable floor fully velcroed on all sides, and lengths of the floor?

  1. No issues with the fiberglass poles from other customers - so far, people who purchased the tent, love it. The fiberglass poles support the upper roof area of the tent. In relation to this, CampingCove also have other tents that use a different pole type called Con-StructSuper-lite poles. These are heavy-duty, easily replaceable and high-tension poles that hold best for big tents like the Vega, Ajax and Nova.
  2. None at all, if you follow the assembly instructions and use all the guy ropes and tent stakes to set up the tent, you shouldn't have any issues with the wind. That said, CEC tents are intended for 3 season family camping use and not for extreme weather conditions.
  3. Yes it is, there is a built in mesh vent for air circulation and full fabric zippered doors to keep out the sun and rain.
  4. Yes the Velcro fasteners attach all sides of the floor to the tent and run on all points.

From Ed:

I was wondering if you were considering making an entrance way that zips into the Axis. We have an area we set aside with a couple of "door mats" to take off and put on shoes, but it takes up space, and there are 5 of us in my family. With the available space in the Axis I know it's sort of the "looking a gift horse in the mouth" but it would help keep the floor area cleaner and more room for other gear.

We are fortunate enough to have a 4th Zulu pod and sometimes take it as an Entrance/Exit (and shoe area) but it's a little tight getting in and out. Let me know and thanks for making a great tent!

Hi Ed, thanks for that. [The idea of] a porch or awning-covered entranceway for the Axis is something we've had requests for [not only for] this type of design but for different models and it's something we can look into although a support tarp is the first thing that comes to mind as something that is universal. If you have any specific designs in mind we'd love to see an illustration. Thanks for your emails - keep the ideas coming, many CEC tents were born out of customer feedback!

From Ken:

I just purchased the Axis tent I have one question how would this tent keep bugs out of the tent. The velcro is approx every two feet and this leaves gaps. Please let me know if I am setting it up wrong or not.

Hi Ken, the floor is designed to be removable and not physically sealed air tight to the rest of the tent - the tub style floor overlapped with the rain fly staked down sufficiently will deter pests.
