The Mars 6-Person Family Camping Dome Tent is a 2'x1'x0.9', waterproof tent with removable partitions that will allow you to customize your space. This tent also has updated features like the Con-Struct (TM) Super-lite tent poles to improve your camping experience!

Similar to the Vega, Eros, Gobi, Indiana, Taurus, Atlas, and Axis, the Mars 6 belongs to the 4-6 people range. The Mars 6 is on the upper end of the scale as it is specifically designed to accommodate a maximum of 6 people.

Despite its 6-person rating, the Mars 6 can house a smaller family of 5 with more comfort. By using one of the sleeping rooms as a storage area, 2 people can lay down with room to turn in the other room, and 3 more people can sleep in the living area. For a better idea of the tent's lay out, you can view the floor area map on the image gallery.

The Mars 6 is one of the classic tents from CEC. It has a tunnel tent design and a Standard construction. A Standard construction tent uses quality assembly pieces however its poles are heavier than the ones used in Premium construction tents. In terms of weight, it is on the higher end of the scale. It weighs 24.7 kgs., making it only slightly lighter than the Eros and Gobi. For lighter 6-person tents, check out the Vega, and Taurus.

It has an inner standing height of 210 cm, placing it in the middle of the range. Not a problem for a group of people with average height. But if you need more headroom for a tall member, you can opt for the Vega 6 which is 250 cm tall inside, or the Axis 4 which is 260 cm but can accommodate fewer people.

The Mars 6 is also perfect if you are looking for a tent with a small packed size. It has the smallest in the range which is 80 x 46 x 29cm.

The Mars 6 comes with the Exo-derm (TM) rain fly: a 210T polyester taffeta rain fly, specially-designed for CEC, which will withstand heavy downpours, unlike nylon. It is also coated with 3000mm Polyurethane film and with fully-taped seams that has 6-7 stitches per inch, you can be sure that no water comes in! It also comes with a storm flap that channels water away from the tent.

The Dri-tek (TM) floor is also completely waterproof thanks to the fully sewn-in Polyethylene tub-style groundsheet.

Cool comfort is ensured with the mesh vents on the top of the tent and mesh panels on doors on the opposite ends. Not only does this keep your rooms cool, it also keeps those pesky bugs out!

The inner tent is also made with lightweight, breathable 190T polyester.

Inside the tent are removable partitions that you can put up to create private spaces for the occupants. This feature also allows you to leave out rooms for a larger free standing shelter!

The Mars 6's assembly pieces are of top-quality making for a sturdy tent!

Starting off with the Dyna-strap (TM) webbing: stronger guy lines positioned with precision at the peak of the pole arc for maximum resistance and tension, making sure the tent is stable and in shape.

Next, we have the Talon tent stakes (TM): high-resistance ABS stakes – lighter than conventional steel stakes but will hold your tent firmly on the ground even in strong wind conditions(Note: The Mars 6 is strong but not designed for use in extreme wind conditions like gale force winds and hurricanes).

And let's not forget…

The Con-Struct (TM) Super-lite tent poles: these are heavy-duty, recyclable, high-tension modular poles that will provide maximum support. It closely resembles a PVC pipe so in the very unlikely event that you need a replacement, you can simply pop in into your local hardware store for one, go home and cut to size! Anyway, that might not be necessary because we will provide you with a hassle-free 12-month warranty.

Your Questions Answered

From Chip:

We purchased a Mars tent and the family is getting excited about getting out and camping in this monster. But before that, on every forum or blog I read, most recommend using a seam sealer, even on new tents. So, what is CEC's view? Should I seal the seams on the outer tent before the first use? And, when the time does come that the tent needs to be retreated, what type of product do you recommend? Thanks.

We get these questions a lot about treating the rain fly on any brand of tent and there is the deal with CEC:

  1. Fabric: the fabric we use for our rain fly (outermost portion of your tent that is exposed to the rain) is already treated with polyurethane (PU) to prevent water penetrating the fabric
  2. Seams: in addition, we heat tape all of the inside seams on the rain fly with a PU tape to further prevent water ingress via the seams
  3. Floor: we use a polyethylene fabric for the floors which is much more water resistant than nylon or polyester
  4. Design: we've engineered our tents in such a way that when assembled properly (following the instructions you can download online), the natural pitch of the roof will help reduce any moisture build up on the outside of the tent so that water just rolls off

This feature, combined with the fabric and seam taping, negates the need for you to apply any additional treatment to the tent. Hope this helps.

From Mark:

I purchased a "Mars" tent and am awaiting shipment. In your instructions it appears that I am to assembly all poles and erect the tent BEFORE I stake it down? Is this the correct sequence?

Hi Mark, yes it's recommended you assemble the tent with the poles before staking it down as you may have to adjust the tent before stacking down the corners and the guy ropes.

From Marcus:

From the photos on your website [about Mars] could you tell me how the doors on this tent that I can see open actually close up. Do they zip up for insect and weather protection? I need a tent that will be fully enclosed (floors and walls and the doors) once closed up. Firstly I require this as we are taking a small pet with us and I need to ensure that he cannot escape once the tent is closed up and secondly for weather protection. We are going to a place that has a high amount of wind and rain...

Hi Marcus,

  1. All of the doors built into the rain fly on all CEC tents zip close and have a dual mesh screen and full fabric door so that you can have air flow with the mesh screen or full weather protection and privacy with the full fabric door.
  2. The Mars tent is part of our Premium grade tents that have the rain fly and the tub style waterproof floor fully sewn together to prevent water ingress...If you're looking for other options, there are other tents in the same category as Mars.

From Jamie:

Hello Camping Cove. I am considering purchasing either the Mars 6 or Gobi 6. Before finalizing my decision I have a few questions:

  1. Do they have electric ports?
  2. Are there hooks in the ceiling to hang a lantern?
  3. I am 6 feet. Is the peak height any higher?
  4. Are there pockets to store small items?
  5. For the Mars 6 is it possible to attach a canopy?
  6. Do you sell a groundsheet for below the tents?

Thank you.

Hope this helps you. Thanks.

  1. Yes, there is!
  2. Yes there are!
  3. Peak height for the Mars is 6.88976 feet and for the Gobi 6.72572 feet. You may also want to visit our other standing height category tents and find the one that most suits you.
  4. Plenty!
  5. We don't sell accessories like that as both tents have superb water resistant rain fly's.
  6. We don't but ALL tents in the Premium Category have double floors in the sleeping areas and the durable PE floors are quite abrasion resistant.
