The Polaris 12-Person Family Camping Dome Tent is a 27'x22'x7', waterproof tent that boasts of a huge living area and a sleeping area that can be divided into 3 or 4 rooms, thanks to the adjustable partition walls. It is the ultimate tent for a group that seeks comfort and privacy.

The Polaris is in the 10+ people range with the Nexus, Ajax, Gettysburg, and Nova. All these tents have a 12-person rating

Although it is rated for 12 people, the Polaris can provide a more comfortable shelter for 10 people.  It has 4 sleeping pods that can accommodate 2 people each, and a main hub that is spacious enough for your stuff and 2 more people. You can also use one of the sleeping pods as a storage room instead to free up the main hub. You can consult the tent's floor area map to get a better idea of the layout.

The Polaris is an old design with a Standard construction. Its assembly pieces are top-notch but not as lightweight as the ones used in Premium construction tents. For tents with a Premium construction, you can look at Ajax, Gettysburg, and Nova

At 20 kgs, the Polaris is right in the middle of the scale in terms of weight. If you need a lighter tent for easier transport, better check out the Gettysburg and Nova which are both under 20 kgs.

Similar to its weight, the Polaris is also in middle of the scale in terms of headroom. It has an inner standing height of 210 cm – a good tent if people in your group are of average height. However, if you are looking for a tent with more height allowance, that will be the Nova which offers a vertical space of 220 cm.

The Polaris has the largest packed size - 107 x 38 x 19cm. This is not a problem if you have plenty of room in your car, however if you want something that packs smaller, check out the Nova 12 which packs down to the smallest size.

It has a durable 210T polyester taffeta rain fly made waterproof by its 3000mm polyurethane coating. The seams are tightly stitched (6-7 stitches per inch) and are fully-taped. What's more is that it is UV-coated for added protection against the elements. Don't worry about the floors either: moisture from the ground will stay out with the polyethylene groundsheet in the sleeping areas, and the tub-style groundsheet in the living area.

The Polaris 12's rain fly and fabric doors are incorporated with mesh panels and mesh vents for improved air circulation. With air flowing in and out of the tent, you can expect a cooler space inside, plus less condensation. The inner tent itself is made with lightweight and breathable 190T polyester.

The sleeping areas are installed with adjustable partition walls so you can modify it according to your needs. For example, you can split the 6-person room into two 3-person rooms. You can also choose not to put up one of the rooms if you want a larger living area.

The Polaris 12 comes with high-quality assembly pieces that were created with longevity in mind, meaning you will surely be using this well-crafted tent in many more camping trips in the future. It will perform satisfyingly or you get a replacement since we are providing a 12-month warranty with your order.

This mega tent will stand strong even in unexpected wind conditions. Ubertech shock-corded poles used to hold it up are 45% stronger than fiberglass poles. Plus, it's pinned down by massive ABS tent stakes which are lighter but much stronger than ordinary steel ones. And don't worry about the tent losing its shape in a heavy downpour: large PP webbing straps are positioned at the peak of the tent and runs down to the side to create maximum resistance and tension that will maintain the tent's curvature and prevent water from pooling on top (Note: The Polaris 12 is made for summer use and is not guaranteed to withstand gale force winds or hurricanes).

The poles sleeves of the Polaris 12 are color-coded, making it easier and less time-consuming for you to set up such a massive structure. The guy ropes are also woven with 3M Scotch-lite thread for increased visibility when pitching in low-light conditions.

Your Questions Answered

From Jerry:

We purchased the Polaris tent. Have had it for years. Camped a total of about 18 times with it. Sometimes for 15 days at a time. Our tent was THE ONLY tent that didn't leak at every event we went to.  I do use a water repellant spray as well but basically the tent is a dream for large families. We are very pleased with it. I have a family that needs a new tent...I am giving them my beloved Polaris...I want the Atlas and 3 Miga...I saw what you guys did in Haiti [back then]...Nice...my company does business worldwide and I love it when a company puts its money where its mouth is....

Hi Jerry, thanks for your great comment. We do our best to ensure our customers are happy with their products and take the time to consider all the feedback we receive from all of them - based on this feedback, we created the Modular Tent System [Axis & Zulu, Atlas & Miga] for a new standard in functionality and style. Hope you like what we have here.

From Andy:

Hi we bought the Polaris 12 man Tent and it is an amazing tent in every way: looks, size, quality. [However] we bought the tent not realising what a “summer only tent” really meant. Until we went away last [time], we did not realise why we were so cold at night time. Hence “ Summer Only Tent”. We were just wondering if CEC also does an all seasons tent, because the Polaris is really top of its class.  We normally camp in [months] which at times are a bit chilly at night. If CEC only had an all season tent they have a winner.

Hi Andy, thanks for your email and your comments regarding the Polaris - we're glad you enjoy it. Generally speaking, a well assembled tent will help minimize cold air resulting from rain and wind but don't offer very good insulation value which is usually caused by air being trapped in the space between 2 surfaces eg the down fill in a winter jacket, double pane windows, fiberglass insulation in the walls of a house, etc. For warmth, you should rely more on decent clothing and sleeping bags - but remember to avoid exposing your tents to any heat sources like an open fire or heater because it can very likely damage the fabric. Hope this helps!

From Tina:

We had a trial run on putting up our Polaris... I was wondering should we insert the poles into the ring/peg stakes attached to the fly before trying to raise the tent off the ground. Also what is the black strapping for? Also which part of the tent should we raise first because we found it hard with just two people to keep it up whilst try to stake it down. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Hi Tina, thanks for your message. To further clarify the instruction sheet, we recommend you assemble the tent with the following broad steps in this order:

  1. Assemble the rain fly first: insert all tent poles through the pole sleeves on the rain fly first with 1 end of each pole joined to the pin and ring system. Then erect the rain fly by inserting the pin into the opposite end of each tent pole one by one. Last, stake down the rain fly at the major point starting with the corners - you may wish to work your way around the tent by staking down the bottom edges and then the guy ropes for added stability.
  2. Assemble the inner tents: unfold each inner tent inside the rain fly in the appropriate area and assemble by staking down the bottom rear edge (closest to the bottom edge of the rain fly). Then work your way up and towards the entrance of the inner tent, taking care to fasten the inner tent to the underside of the rain fly using the hooks and toggles provided. Last, unfold removable groundsheet and place in the central living area of the tent (in the middle of the assembled inner/sleeping tents) and stake down.

  1. we love this tent

    Posted by on

My husband and I love the Polaris. We have 4 children and 2 dogs. This tent and all its room and privacy is perfect for us. All our friends call it our lake cabin. They joke that we should lay foundation and start paying taxes. It generally takes my husband and I about an hour to set up this tent and an hour for take down and put away. Thanks for the great summer!!! We look forward to more fun next year.
